The sun is out year-round in southern California, and the diligent use of sunscreen is a must!

WHY USE SUNSCREEN?

Sunscreen helps protect the skin from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation by absorbing or reflecting it. There are two types of UV radiation – UVA and UVB. UVA causes wrinkling and aging, and UVB causes sunburns.

We’d like to CONGRATULATE our employee – Rob Bernhard – for winning in his age group in the Chino Grinder in Arizona on May 4, 2019! The Chino Grinder is a 115-mile ultra endurance cycling event from Chino, Arizona to the Williams (Gateway to the Grand Canyon) area and back through the Prescott and Kaibab National Forests.

Everyone knows they should stay active – there are so many physical and mental benefits of exercise!

Dr. Alexandra Myers and Dr. Elizabeth Williams, who practice at our Sorrento Valley office, were among protesters at the Mission Beach Boardwalk on Saturday, April 20. Protesters were concerned about e-scooters and other motorized vehicles causing injuries to riders and pedestrians on the boardwalk. They contended that safety regulations need to be put in place and enforced to prevent injuries. Dr. Myers spoke about the types of e-scooter injuries – concussions, cuts, and broken bones – that our physicians have been treating. Dr. Williams also spoke about statistics regarding head injuries in particular, arising from failure to wear a helmet. Take a look at the ABC Channel 10 News coverage here.

Dr. Lee Ralph, MD, who practices at our Alvarado and Sorrento Valley offices, has been named as the 2019 Family Physician of the Year by the California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP)! He is honored to have been selected from among the nearly 11,000 members of the CAFP, in recognition of his excellence in the practice of medicine and patient care; his leadership roles in training the next generations of family physicians; and his community service.

Congratulations to the USA Women’s National Water Polo Team, which claimed their fourth FINA Intercontinental title in the last five years! The athletes participated in the competition in Perth, Australia from March 26-31. Dr. Rebeccah Rodriguez was honored to serve as physician for the team, treating the athletes for strains, sprains, osteopathic manipulation, and more, in addition to providing education to them for intense training.

Dr. Ken Anderson, the Medical Director of our Pacific Beach Urgent Care, was privileged to provide medical care to the players at the BNP Paribas Open in beautiful Indian Wells March 4-17, 2019! Congratulations to Singles champions Dominic Thiem and Bianca Andreescu, and Doubles champions Nikola Mektic/Horacio Zeballos and Elise Mertens/Aryna Sabalenka! And great job to Jeffery & Josh Phillips and all the fantastic ballkids!

Dr. Ken Anderson was privileged to provide the medical treatment for the players at the 2019 Shoebacca Women’s Open Tennis Tournament at the beautiful Morgan Run Club & Resort. The Open is in its ninth year and is a premier event on the USTA Pro Circuit. Congratulations to singles winner Nicole Gibbs, and doubles winners Hayley Carter and Ena Shibahara!
